“‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’ takes place on the island of Guernsey,” says co-author Annie Barrows on the book’s official site, “which is in the English channel, during the second World War when the island was occupied by the Germans. It’s about a group of eccentric locals and transplanted Londoners who come together at a particularly inauspicious moment to form a book club. It’s about the books that they read and how they grow to love one another and save one another during that time.”
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society adaptation, which is planning to shoot early next year, features a script by Dan Roos (Marley & Me) and Tom Bezucha (The Family Stone). StudioCanal is financing with The Mazur/Kaplan Company’s Paula Mazur and Mitchell Kaplan producing alongside Blueprint Pictures’ Graham Broadbent and Pete Czer.
Lily James starred early this year in both the big screen’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and on the small screen’s six-hour War & Peace miniseries. Coming up, James can be seen as part of the ensemble cast of Edgar Wright’s musical heist actioner Baby Driver. That one hits theaters August 11, 2017.
