Holidates Movie on the Way Based on Craigslist Ad

50 First Dates’ Peter Segal has a new high concept rom-com on the way with Holidates

50 First Dates director Peter Segal has a new high concept romantic comedy on the way. Variety today reports that Segal has signed on to helm Holidates. Based on a real life Craigslist ad, Holidates was scripted by Laura Sandler and tells the story of a man and a woman who agree to pose as boyfriend and girlfriend in order to make it through the holiday season.

Before he tackles Holidates, however, Peter Segal is gearing up to shoot the science fiction thriller Inversion. That film, scripted by David Arata, Paul Haggis and Bragi Schut, boasts a $130 million budget and tells the story of a catastrophic shift that causes the Earth’s gravity to reverse itself. Samuel L. Jackson is set to headline Inversion opposite Travis Fimmel and Liu Tifei. The current plan is for Inversion to begin production in late February 2017, shooting in Berlin, Chicago and Shanghai.

Segal’s last feature was the 2013 Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro comedy Grudge Match. Since then, he’s been working on the small screen, helming episodes of Showtime‘s Shameless and STARZ‘s Survivor’s Remorse.

Peter Segal will also serve as executive produce on Holidates through his Callahan Filmworks (named after the faux Callahan Auto company from Segal’s early comedy feature, Tommy Boy). Callahan’s own Michael Ewing will also executive produce. Producing Holidates, meanwhile, are Lotus Entertainment and Mosaic. Sarah Gabriel and Ara Keshishian will oversee for the former with Langely Perer and Matt Riley doing so for the latter.
