Malin Akerman has signed to join the musical Rock of Ages, Deadline reports.
Based on the hit Broadway musical, the story centers on two people who meet at the Sunset Strip club “Rock of Ages” and fall for one another against the backdrop of ’80s rock anthems. The cast is currently set to include Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige, Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti, Diego Bonet, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Bryan Cranston.
Akerman will play a journalist who, attempting to do a story on Cruise’s rock star character, winds up spending the night with him. She’ll next appear in the action thriller Medallion opposite Nicolas Cage and is scheduled to headline the Linda Lovelace biopic, Inferno.
Rock of Ages will go into production shortly, aiming for a June 1, 2012 release.
