Penn, Gosling and Brolin in Talks for Gangster Squad

Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin are now in talks to star in the Ruben Fleischer-directed Gangster Squad at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Variety says that Penn is nearing a deal to star, and with Penn, every other offer was expected to fall into place. It was previously reported that the studio had offered the roles to Penn and Gosling, but no negotiations had begun then.

Will Beall wrote the script for the film, which is adapted from a series of L.A. Times articles. The movie explores the true story of a band of secret “off the record” police task force who went after Meyer Harris “Mickey” Cohen, a high-profile gangster who was a member of the “Jewish Mafia” in the 1940’s.

Dan Lin and Kevin McCormick are producing.
