Korean horror thriller Train to Busan expands theatrical reach and gives us an exclusive, shocking clip
We caught the harrowing South Korean zombie shocker Train to Busan at Fantasia last week and man, it kicked our asses. Fast, violent and armed with a spine-shaking sound design, the entire sold-out crowd lost their marbles. Sure, you’ve seen it all before but rarely executed with such style and ferocity.
Read Max Evry’s report on that screening here and Andrew Parker’s review here.
The film stars Gong Yoo as a workaholic businessman and father who accompanies his doe-eyed daughter on the titular train ride to see her mother at the very same time that a malevolent virus breaks out, turning the populace into ravenous, milk-eyed ghouls. When one of those blood-sucking zombies gets on the train, Hell is unleashed and the father must team up with a gaggle of survivors to fight the dead and protect his child.
It’s a high octane, rail-centric riff on the zombie film filled with style, emotion and endless action.
The film (which is breaking records in Korea) opened July 22nd domestically and will expand its theatrical reach this weekend.
