Clint Eastwood has signed on to direct a remake of A Star is Born for Warner Bros., Deadline is reporting.
The project, long in development, has Beyoncé attached to play the lead, as has been rumored for quite some time. A male lead is currently unannounced, though it is expected to go to a high-profile actor.
Eastwood’s version will mark the fourth big-screen iteration of the film. William A. Wellman directed the 1937 original with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. The 1954 George Cukor is probably the best known, starring Judy Garland and James Mason. 1976 saw Frank Pierson tackle an updated version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
Eastwood, who is known for fast turnaround, is said likely to begin production this fall.
