Amy Adams, Chris Cooper and Rashida Jones are all in negotiations to join the cast of The Muppets, according to a post at The Hollywood Reporter.
The film, already set to star Jason Segel (who, along with Nicholas Stoller, provides the script), is said to be loosely based on a Jim Henson idea originally titled The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made, wherein Gonzo is hired to direct a film, but winds up blowing his entire budget on the first day. From there, he’s forced to finish the picture without any money but with the help of his Muppet friends.
Adams would play Segel’s character’s girlfriend with Jones as a network executive and Cooper as the film’s villain, who seeks to ruin the Muppets’ film studio in order to dig for oil beneath it.
The Muppets is planned to begin production next month in Los Angeles with a Christmas 2011 release.
