X-Men: Apocalypse Opens to $8.2 Million at Thursday Previews

20th Century Fox‘s X-Men: Apocalypse earned $8.2 million at Thursday previews domestically, which is similar to the $8.1 million X-Men: Days of Future Past grossed its first evening. We’ll have to wait and see where the Bryan Singer-directed film will end up for the four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend, though Fox thinks it could be $85 million or more. X-Men: Days of Future Past opened to $110.6 million for the four-day Memorial Day weekend in 2014.

X-Men: Apocalypse had already earned more than $130 million overseas before it opened in North American theaters yesterday. The film reportedly cost about $178 million to make before marketing expenses.

Disney‘s Alice Through the Looking Glass brought in an estimated $1.5 million at Thursday previews and the studio is said to be hoping for an opening over $60 million for the weekend. Alice in Wonderland debuted to $116.1 million domestically its first three-day weekend in 2010 and went on to gross an impressive $1.025 billion globally.

X-Men: Apocalypse stars James McAvoy as Charles Xaver, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Lucas Till as Havok, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Ben Hardy as Angel, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Lana Condor as Jubilee, and Oscar Isaac as the film’s title antagonist.

The James Bobin-directed Alice Through the Looking Glass stars Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska, Rhys Ifans, Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen, Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall. Alice Through the Looking Glass cost $170 million to make before marketing costs.
