The Hollywood Reporter says that Helen Mirren is in negotiations to join Russell Brand in Warner Bros. remake Arthur.
The 1981 comedy centered on a boozy playboy (Dudley Moore) who is set to inherit a fortune if he marries an heiress his family thinks will make something out of him. However, he falls in love with a working-class woman and turns to his valet (John Gielgud) for help when his family makes him choose between money and love.
For the new version, the part of the valet has been reconstructed as that of Arthur’s longtime nanny.
Shooting is scheduled to start this July in New York. Jason Winer will direct from a script by Peter Baynham.
