Star talks Star Wars: The Force Awakens script and character’s story
The first frames of footage we saw for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens featured John Boyega’s Fin, distraught and out of breath in the desert of Jakku (an interactive video of which just debuted online yesterday). Since then, we’ve seen countless other images of his character in the marketing materials, and toys, including the shot of him holding a blue lightsaber. In a recent interview with GQ, Boyega opened up about the process of preparing for the film and revealed his reaction to reading The Force Awakens script, saying:
“When I read the script I cried, and I’m not really a big crier… I’m more like a frog-in-the-throat kind of guy, who’ll try to hold it in and make sure I don’t let it all out.”
He went on to talk about his character Fin’s story in the film, revealing that it mirrors some classic Star Wars character’s own paths.
“Finn is dope. His story is so epic. It’s a story that’s never been seen before, but it also mirrors the stories of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. And he’s quirky and charismatic and funny. For me, he was the best character in the script.”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and features a new generation of swashbuckling heroes and shadowy villains, as well as the return of fan-favorite smugglers, princesses, and Jedi.
