Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first official looks at the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse as the film, which made a splash at Comic Con last week, covers the latest issue of the mag as well as is previewed with a handful of new pictures.
Making the most noise is Oscar Isaac‘s look as the titular villain, Apocalypse, a character believed to be the first mutant who was found as an infant in ancient Egypt by a band of nomads who ingrained in him the idea “the strong will survive,” shaping his actions throughout time.
Picking up ten years after the events that took place in the past in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the story finds Apocalypse looking to take over the world and in the process recruiting the help of other mutants such as Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Storm (Alexandra Shipp) and Angel (Ben Hardy), known as the four horsemen.
Of course, then Charles (James McAvoy) and the others, including Raven (Jennifer Lawrence), Quicksilver (Evan Peters), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult) set out to stop him.
The response I’ve seen to the images of Apocalypse have been largely negative, but I have to assume this is character that will look much better in context of the final product rather than these still images from Entertainment Weekly. We’ll only know once the film hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
For now, check out some more pictures and the EW cover below.
