Big news just arrived as Netflix is continuing to up its profile, this time landing Brad Pitt‘s next movie War Machine with director David Michod (Animal Kingdom).
The film is a satirical comedy that will find Pitt playing a four-star U.S. military general patterned after Gen. Stanley McChrystal. Michod penned the script which was inspired by Michael Hastings‘ “The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan“. Word is the budget will be in the $30 million range and the priority is Netflix’s streaming service, which is to say there are no guarantees as to how, or even if, the movie will play theatrically.
“War Machine is a rip-roaring, behind-the-facade tale of modern war decision-makers, from the corridors of power to the distant regions of America’s ambitions,” said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer of Netflix. “Brad and David are a perfect team to make this timely, compelling and entertaining film.”
I’m truly curious to see how this ends up as Netflix has not only this, but a four picture deal with Adam Sandler (which includes the controversial The Ridiculous Six), Cary Fukunaga‘s Beasts of No Nation and the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel with no official word on their theatrical release plans for any of them.
