In addition to the names already mentioned, Benito Martinez (“House of Cards”), E. Roger Mitchell (Selma), Lola Kirke (Gone Girl) and Alejandro Edda (“The Bridge”) are set to round out the cast. No word on who these new cast members will play, but Cruise stars as real-life U.S. figure Barry Seal, a TWA pilot and hustler who is unexpectedly recruited through the CIA to run one of the biggest covert operations in U.S. history, the one which helped create the Medellin cartel and one that almost brought down the Regan White House administration through the Iran Contra scandal.
While Ron Howard stepped down from directing the new movie, Imagine Entertainment remains on board through producers Brian Grazer and Kim Roth. Cross Creek‘s Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson also produces, as does Doug Davison on the ’80s-set thriller.
Plans are to continue filming on Mena through July, which will give Cruise time to promote Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation before its July 31 release.
Mena will shoot across the country, as Cherokee, Clayton, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinett, Morgan and Pickens all become points of destination during production. The release date is set on this one for January 6, 2017.
Plemons, best known for his work on “Friday Night Lights” and “Breaking Bad,” is next seen in Black Mass and “Fargo” season two later this year. Jones, meanwhile, has Roland Emmerich‘s Stonewall on the horizon. [Variety]
