I feel, for as unnecessary and silly as it seems, the Point Break remake coming this Christmas just might be a worthwhile, outlandish thrill ride. Then again, it could be a steaming pile.
At least when The Fast and the Furious ripped off Kathryn Bigelow‘s 1991 film they switched up the method of their source of thrills while the Ericson Core remake of the same name is sticking with the extreme sports model as is evident from the film’s first poster.
Keeping the same names as the original, the remake will center on a young FBI agent, Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey), as he infiltrates a cunning team of thrill seeking elite athletes, led by the charismatic Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez). The athletes are suspected of carrying out a string of staggering crimes that kill innocent people and send the world’s economy into a tailspin. Deep undercover, and with his life in imminent danger, Utah strives to prove they are the callous architects of these inconceivable crimes.
There is clearly an attempt to go BIG with the action here as we see in the poster below, though I will say it would seem the money fluttering into the atmosphere here seems all but lost. I also see this is going to be presented in 3D, but if it isn’t full screen IMAX 3D I really don’t know what the point is.
