It’s no secret Ryan Gosling and Guillermo del Toro have formed a bond of late. The Mexican filmmaker moderated a SXSW panel of Gosling’s Haunted Mansion, a family feature based on the amusement park ride of the same name.
The project has been in the works since July 2010, but it looks like del Toro has regained interest in the film. Currently, D.V. DeVincentis (High Fidelity) is hard at work on the film’s screenplay. The filmmaker always has a variety of projects on his plate, however, and often many go on for years without development or simply never happen at all. Look at Hellboy 3 for instance. Of course, if this does come to pass, it won’t arrive for about two or three years.
He’s putting the final touches on another haunted house film April 7, 2017. He’s also attached to the Amazon pilot “Carnival Row“, which plans to film sometime between these activities. After that, however, he’s a seemingly open man, and it appears for the moment a trip to the Haunted Mansion is where he wants to ride next.
While Gosling hasn’t starred in a Disney film since 2000’s Remember the Titans, the actor has an extended and continued history with the company. He’s a former Musketeer as you may or may not remember, and he was also recently offered the part of the Beast in their upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast feature, but that part ultimately went to Dan Stevens.
Of course, this is not the first time Disney attempted to bring their spooky ride to the big screen. They’ve have tried hard to sweep their 2003 Eddie Murphy film under the rug, though, and it’s not hard to see why. [The Wrap]
