The Academy is taking a page out of Marvel’s book and not only announcing the Oscar date for next year’s show, but for the shows in 2017 and 2018 as well. Get out your calendars.
The 88th Academy Awards will take place on Feb. 28, 2016 with the 89th Oscars airing on Feb. 26, 2017 and the 90th show airing March 4, 2018. Got that? Now hopefully all other award shows will stay away from those dates so as not to create a conflict, though that February 2016 date means there will be some competition with the opening of the Ben-Hur remake that weekend as well as Sacha Baron Cohen‘s Grimsby, but we’ll let the studios deal with that.
The Academy also announced other key dates for the upcoming award season, which go as follows:
- Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 – The Governors Awards
- Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015 – Nominations voting opens 8 a.m. PT
- Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 – Nominations voting closes 5 p.m. PT
- Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 – Oscar Nominations Announcement
- Monday, Feb. 8, 2016 – Oscar Nominees Luncheon
- Friday, Feb. 12, 2016 – Final voting opens 8 a.m. PT
- Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016 – Scientific and Technical Awards

- Oscar Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016 – 88th Academy Awards begins 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT
I have added the key dates above to the 2015 awards season schedule right here, which already includes dates for the 2016 Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 10, 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Jan. 30 and more dates.
