Time’s up! The results are in, the polls are closed and we have our 2015 Oscar Predictions. At the bottom of this post I’ve included my predictions in all 24 categories along with those of my Oscar live blog partner Laremy Legel, followed by the results from the reader polls from earlier this week and just like last year there are a couple differences to note.
Between the three sets of predictions, I’m the only one predicting an Eddie Redmayne win for Best Actor while Laremy and the readers are sticking with Michael Keaton. I’ve definitely gone what I would consider to be the “safe” route and wouldn’t complain one bit if Keaton ended up taking the statue.
Laremy and the readers also see a The Grand Budapest Hotel win for Best Original Screenplay while I went with Birdman and in one more category, Best Live Action Short, the readers and Laremy are going with the more “star-studded” effort, The Phone Call, over my pick, Parvaneh.
There are some differences in the sound categories as well with the reader going with American Sniper in both sound categories and Laremy predicting Whiplash in mixing. And in one final difference, Laremy is going with Crisis Veterans Hotline: Press 1 for documentary short.
It’s somewhat amazing all three predictions have Birdman considering how close the race was in the polls with Birdman getting 47% of the votes to 41.5% for Boyhood. The Best Actor race was very close in the polls as well with Keaton getting 49% of the vote and Redmayne getting 42.8%.
Close races existed in Best Director and Best Original Screenplay as it seems to be a case of Are you going with Birdman or its competitor? We’ll see how it all shakes out in a few hours, for now check out the three batches of predictions below with predictions where Laremy and the readers differed from my predictions highlighted in bold red text.
Stay tuned as Laremy and I will be getting started with our Oscar live blogging around 4 PM PST. Until then, hash out the poll results in the comments below.
