Straight Outta Compton
DIR: F. Gary Gray
August 14
This may be a surprise for some, but I grew up with N.W.A. and I’m very curious to see how this biopic turns out as the fact it’s being produced by Ice Cube and Dr. Dre concerns me the facts of the matter may get a little twisted as I already pointed out.

Steve Jobs
DIR: Danny Boyle
TBA
I did my best to include only movies that will be hitting theaters this year and Danny Boyle‘s Steve Jobs biopic may be the biggest question mark of the lot, but with production starting this spring it has more than enough time to make a late year release date. My interest largely lies with Aaron Sorkin‘s screenplay as I’m still a little bummed it won’t be David Fincher directing, but I’ve gone over the film’s trials and tribulations on its way to production more than enough (for the full story click here) so for now, let’s just say I hope Boyle gives us something great.

Truth
DIR: James Vanderbilt
TBA 2015
I think Hollywood is particularly great at telling stories about the industry, but I also think they are pretty great whenever they delve into stories about the media and while this may be James Vanderbilt‘s directorial debut, I simply love the cast he’s assembled to tell this story.
Truth finds Robert Redford playing CBS News icon Dan Rather and Cate Blanchett playing his producer Mary Mapes in a story that explores the scandal that erupted after Rather reported on “60 Minutes II” that George W. Bush had gotten preferential treatment that put him in the National Guard to avoid the Vietnam War draft. The ensuing scandal during Bush’s reelection campaign left Mapes fired and Rather’s storied reputation in tatters.
On top of the names already mentioned, the cast also includes Elisabeth Moss, Topher Grace, Dennis Quaid and Bruce Greenwood. I really think this could be an electric story.

Magic Mike XXL
DIR: Gregory Jacobs
July 1
I probably have this ranked a little too high, but I really loved Magic Mike and as I just said Hollywood does stories about the industry and media well, they also seem to nail road trip movies as well and when you take a group of male strippers and send them on the road to a stripper convention, what’s not to look forward to? Here’s the official plot:
Picking up the story three years after Mike (Channing Tatum) bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, Magic Mike XXL finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.

Silence
DIR: Martin Scorsese
TBA 2015
It’s a Martin Scorsese feature, what’s not to anticipate? Scorsese has wanted to tell the story of Silence, based on the Shusaku Endo novel, for some time and now he finally has the chance. The 17th century set story finds two Jesuit priests facing violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity. Among the cast are Andrew Garfield, Tadanobu Asano, Issei Ogata, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson.
