New Pictures from ‘Star Wars 7’, ‘Insurgent’, ‘Furious 7’, ‘Ted 2’, ‘Jurassic World’ and More

Ah, if it isn’t Chappie, the gun-wielding, gold chain-wearing, graffiti-tattooed robot. I can’t say I’m looking forward to this one, but if Neill Blomkamp embraces its silliness with wide open arms, it could be worth a good once-over.

I know what you’re thinking, this is just a picture from Divergent, isn’t it? Nope. It’s from The Divergent Series: Insurgent, which is of course the sequel to Divergent but with the original film’s title included in its name so people don’t forget that the two films are indeed linked. Gotta love it. In other news, Shailene Woodley is really working the pixie cut here, and I’m digging it.

At first I was certain the picture below was for an upcoming romantic comedy, but it turns out I’m wrong again. I’m behind on the Fast and Furious movies, in fact I haven’t seen one since… hm… wow, since Tokyo Drift. From what I’ve heard about the last couple movies in the franchise, I’m missing out on some great action set pieces, but I’m sure I’ll get around to those movies eventually. I’m saving ’em for a rainy day, you know? For now, though, here’s a picture from Furious 7 of Michelle Rodriguez and Vin Diesel staring into each other’s eyes, because nothing shows off a film about car chases quite like a picture of two people not involved in a car chase.

So, I saw the first trailer for Jurassic World, and I have to say I was actually digging it — until about halfway through when the spectacle gave way to characters speaking very unconvincingly about science and impending danger. If you haven’t yet seen the trailer but intend to watch it, stop it at about the 1:15 mark so as not to completely deflate your hopes and dreams for the film. Now, here’s Chris Pratt riding a motorcycle.

Next we’ve got Chris Hemsworth looking like, well, Chris Hemsworth, in the upcoming film In the Heart of the Sea from director Ron Howard. At first glance I thought this picture was from some weird mashup of Thor and Les Miserables, but I’ve been proven wrong yet again. Shucks.

Stick with me, guys, we’re almost to the end! I’m sure you’re all aware, but Pixar has a new film coming out next year called Inside Out, which takes audiences “to a place that everyone knows, but no one has ever seen: the world inside the human mind.” After a couple misfires (Cars 2, Brave) and a so-so outing (Monsters University), by gosh by golly I really hope Pixar is back in fine form with this one.

Alas! We’ve made it. Based on what promotional stuff I’ve seen thus far for Mad Max: Fury Road, the film seemingly promises to be a batshit insane blockbuster outing, and maybe that’s just what we need come May 15, 2015. The last picture below — yes, you heard me right! — features Tom Hardy in a rudimentary Bane mask carrying someone that looks an awful lot like co-star Nicholas Hoult, though it’s hard to tell considering I’m looking at him in profile and he is thrown over Hardy’s shoulders.

There you have it, guys, a whole bunch of pictures from a whole bunch of upcoming 2015 releases, some I’m looking forward to and others I most decidedly am not. But then, that’s sort of the case for every year. I’ve got my eye on Everest, if only because Jake Gyllenhaal is on quite a hot streak as of late, which I wouldn’t be surprised to see culminate in an Oscar nomination, but beyond that I’m hoping a few of the others turn out to be good as well. So with that, which of the films featured above are you most looking forward to?
