What I Watched, What You Watched #274

By the time next week ends I will have seen pretty much all I need to see from 2014 to get to work on my top ten of the year as this last week went a long way to pushing me toward that goal. In theaters I saw Exodus: Gods and Kings, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and Big Eyes while at home I watched Unbroken. As for my opinion of all four… Well, let’s just say I won’t have to worry about where any of them will fall in my top ten, though reviews of each are coming soon.

Speaking of, I also have to write reviews for Inherent Vice and A Most Violent Year and this coming week I’ll be seeing The Gambler, Top Five and Selma. That will put me at nine movies that need to be reviewed and I still have my interviews with Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler), Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner) and Graham Moore (The Imitation Game) to write.

Oh, wait, I did watch one more movie at home this week, a screener of Obvious Child, which I can safely say I did not really enjoy. Jenny Slate has her moments in the movie, but overall it was a bit of a bore. And for a movie that runs less than 90 minutes to play as if it runs for 2.5 hours is not a good thing.

Finally, I watched the first hour of Birdman again and wow, a second viewing of Boyhood is still necessary before I put together my top ten, but I absolutely love this movie. I only watched an hour so I could watch all of Unbroken and have it end at a reasonable hour, but I feel I could drop into any moment of Birdman and be happy. Oddly enough, I think you could say the same for Boyhood.

So that was my week and what I have to look forward to next week, how about you?
