Arriving on DVD and Blu-ray today is Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the ScreenJunkies crew have turned it into their latest honest trailer and the line from this installment that I chose to use for my headline pretty much summed up my impression of fan feelings toward most blockbusters as of late. I mean, yeah, it’s dumb, but who cares if it’s dumb? It’s so awesome! Right?
[amz asin=”B00MH8EZKY” size=”small”]Admittedly, this new Apes franchise does what it can to bring the “smart” to the “awesome” and, for the most part, the “awesome” is what I generally enjoyed about this latest Apes movie because the supposed “smart” was well, kind of dumb.
Dawn was more or less a non-starter for me, a footnote in the grand scheme of things leading to more and more movies. Whatever. Kudos to Fox for allowing this franchise some breathing room when it comes to exploring something more than just explosions and action-based nonsense, but as far as I’m concerned it was the storytelling that let this movie down more than anything else… but, still awesome… right?
