The New York Film Critics announced their 2014 award winners today and Richard Linklater‘s Boyhood enjoyed a big bump taking not only Best Feature, but also Best Director and Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette. The film has been seen by many as of late as a front-runner for those very awards at this year’s Oscars and with the National Board of Review and Los Angeles Film Critics announcing their awards in the next six days it could definitely mean big things for the little film that could.
Timothy Spall won the Best Actor award for Mr. Turner, which isn’t likely to carry over to the Oscars but should certainly open the door just a bit wider for a nomination, while supporting frontrunners Patricia Arquette (Boyhood) and J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) both took home awards.
Wes Anderson won Best Screenplay for The Grand Budapest Hotel, Darius Khondji won Best Cinemtatography for The Immigrant and The Lego Movie took Best Animated Feature.
Best Foreign Language feature went to Pawel Pawlikowski‘s Ida, which is generated quite a following as of late, and Best Doctumentary went to Laura Poitras‘ Edward Snowden doc Citizenfour, which I see taking the Oscar in the same category quite easily.
