I am enjoying the final day of a little, post-Thanksgiving break before we get knee deep into the end of the year madness. Coming soon are year-end top ten lists and the awards season is well underway as evidenced by my recent week of movie watching.
In theaters I saw A Most Violent Year, which I wrote briefly about right here and will have a full review soon enough. At home I watched a couple screeners, beginning with The BoxTrolls, which was visually impressive, but horrible in terms of its story.
Next was Inherent Vice, which I don’t really want to say much about until I watch it again, but what I will say is what I texted a friend, which is that I found it funny, but I didn’t entirely get it or even really care once it ended. I had a similar response when I tried (and gave up) reading the book, but I think it deserves, at the very least, a second chance.
Then, just last night I re-watched The Lego Movie, which is still just as cute as it was when I saw it in theaters, but sort of proves this year (at least as far as I’ve seen) hasn’t had a knock-out animated feature.
I still have a lot left to watch and re-watch before putting together my year-end top ten, with movies such as Nightcrawler, Birdman, Fury and Gone Girl rolling around in my head. Surprisingly, my desire to rewatch Boyhood just isn’t there. I love that movie, but I’m just not finding that urge to give it a second look. Why is that?
