Ridley Scott Won’t Direct ‘Blade Runner 2’, Does This Mean ‘Prometheus 2’ is after ‘Martian’?

Ridley Scott always has a full plate of possible films for him to tackle next and with Exodus: Gods and Kings in the can and ready to hit theaters on December 12 and him moving to The Martian after that, it was becoming a question of whether it would be Prometheus 2 or Blade Runner 2 after that. Well, it seems we may have our answer.

Speaking with Variety, Scott revealed he won’t be directing Blade Runner 2, but would instead serve only as producer. No word on who will fill in as director on the pic, written by original Blade Runner scribe Hampton Fancher, but Scott did open up a little about the film’s storyline and Harrison Ford‘s anticipated involvement as he’ll return as Deckard.

“We talked at length about what it could be, and came up with a pretty strong three-act storyline, and it all makes sense in terms of how it relates to the first one… Harrison is very much part of this one, but really it’s about finding him; he comes in in the third act.”

Sort of makes you wonder if they’ll get Sean Young back as well, but it sort of sounds like they might be going for a Search for Spock style storyline… We’ll see whenever it finally gets off the ground.

So does this mean it will be Prometheus 2 next for Scott? He has been open to talking about the film whenever ask, most recently confirming once again the script is finished and will introduce a new alien as it sounds like the Xenomorph has been retired… at least for now.
