It’s been going around the Internet for a while now, but it seems today it has been confirmed. Disney and Lucasfilm will indeed market Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. It’s become increasingly rare for studios to market their franchise movies ahead of release, but in such occasions they will actually start teasing audiences with bits of footage from the forthcoming features, edited down into “trailers”, best described as commercials for the longer, yet-to-be-made-available, full movie.
The Star Wars news is a perfect example of such a scenario as J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot has tweeted news of just such an instance that will be taking place this Thanksgiving weekend, confirming news released earlier today via Regal Entertainment, announcing an 88-second preview of The Force Awakens will play in front of every movie beginning on Friday in the following select threaters:
- Irvine, CA Edwards Irvine Spectrum 22 & IMAX
- San Diego, CA Edwards Mira Mesa Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
- Atlanta, GA Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
- Chicago, IL Regal City North Stadium 14 IMAX & RPX
- New York, NY Regal Union Square Stadium 14
- Warrington, PA Regal Warrington Crossing Stadium 22 & IMAX
- Knoxville, TN Regal Pinnacle Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
- Houston, TX Edwards Houston Marq’E Stadium 23 IMAX & RPX
- Seattle, WA Regal Thornton Place Stadium 14 & IMAX
There is no confirmation on whether or not there will be more of these trailers ahead of the December 18, 2015 release date, but I have to assume with 388 days left until that date there will at least be one more trailer, most likely containing even more footage from the movie considering I expect it to run much longer than this first preview’s 88 seconds. There may even be a poster. Stay tuned, if there is more I will be sure to let you know.
