Box Office Actuals: ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ Dips a Stitch, Still #1 Over ‘Big Hero 6’

Dumb and Dumber To dropped almost $2 million from its $38 million, Sunday morning estimate, finishing the weekend with $36.1 million. Nevertheless, it’s still an impressive finish given the lackluster reviews and “B-” CinemaScore, leading me to believe the drop will be pretty big next weekend, though it isn’t as if it has any major competition in the stupid comedy department until next weekend once Horrible Bosses 2 hits theaters.

In second is Big Hero 6, which was also over-estimated and by nearly $1.5 million as it finished the weekend with $34.6 million, which is still just a 38.3% drop as its cume has now grown to $110.3 million domestically and $147 million worldwide as it still has plenty of territories where it has yet to open.

Interstellar remains in third, adding $28.3 million to its domestic total as it is now just shy of $100 million domestically and over $322 million worldwide.

Beyond the Lights was the weekend’s other new wide release, bringing in $6.2 million while new limited releases in Jon Stewart‘s Rosewater opened with $1.15 million from 371 theaters, Kirk Cameron‘s Saving Christmas managed only $992,087 from 410 theaters and Foxcatcher was the per theater hit, bringing in $270,877 from six theaters for an average of $45,146 per theater.

This Friday sees the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, which will clearly be huge, but how huge?
