Shailene Woodley (The Fault in Our Stars) has joined the cast of the currently Untitled Oliver Stone/Edward Snowden Project, which will see her play the girlfriend to Joseph Gordon-Levitt as he plays NSA whistleblower, Edward Snowden.
Written and directed by Oliver Stone, the film is based on the books “The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man” by Luke Harding and “Time of the Octopus” by Anatoly Kucherena.
I’m not sure how much of the film Woodley will actually be in as Snowden didn’t exactly have a lot of contact with his girlfriend just before or even during his time in Hong Kong, which is where he met with journalist Glenn Greenwald and documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras, whose movie Citizenfour (read my review here), offers a complete look at Snowden’s path to becoming one of the most noted whistlerblowers in American history.
Pre-production on the new Oliver Stone feature is currently underway in Munich with principal photography set to begin in January 2015.
