A quick glance at the calendar shows less than 50 days until 2014 is officially behind us, meaning there are fewer and fewer new theatrical releases sitting on the watchlist. However, one movie has sat near the top of my list all year, and given I don’t live in New York or Los Angeles it’s likely I won’t even see it until 2015 is upon us. The movie I’m referring to is J.C. Chandor‘s A Most Violent Year, and while it’s still a little ways off, today we’re given a new clip for the period-set crime drama via A24, which you can check out below.
Set in New York City during the winter of 1981, statistically one of the most violent years in the city’s history, Chandor’s film centers on the lives of an immigrant (Oscar Isaac), his wife (Jessica Chastain), and their family as they try to expand their business and capitalize on opportunities as the rampant violence, decay, and corruption of the day drag them in and threaten to destroy all they have built.
Albert Brooks, David Oyelowo, Alessandro Nivola, Ashley Williams, and Catalina Sandini Moreno help round out the cast for A Most Violent Year, which premiered at the AFI Fest last week to rapturous reviews and opens in limited release on December 31 ahead of a January 2015 nationwide rollout.
