Matt Damon Confirms His Return to the ‘Bourne’ Franchise

When the news arrived that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass had E! that he will play the character for a fourth time in what will effectively be the fifth Jason Bourne feature.

It began when Ben Affleck, they were walking the red carpet for the fourth season of HBO’s “Project Greenlight“, said, “Well, [Damon’s] going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I’ve just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness. So…” which led the E! interviewer to follow-up with Damon.

“Yes, next year,” Damon said. “It’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.”

Plot details remain a mystery, though the July 16, 2016 release date seems confirmed, a date that was previously bumped a year not to mention expected to be reserved as a sequel to The Bourne Legacy, bringing Jeremy Renner back as Aaron Cross. No word on whether or not Renner’s character will play a part in what will essentially be known as Bourne 5, though I have seen The Bourne Betrayal as a title tossed around and even picked up by IMDb, though that site has never been entirely factual when it comes to projects in development, not to mention they have Renner listed as a member of the cast, but not Justin Lin as the possible director.
