Universal and Legendary have premiered the first poster for Michael Mann‘s cyber thriller Blackhat starring Chris Hemsworth, Viola Davis, Holt McCallany, Tang Wei and Wang Leehom. Set for release on January 16, the film follows a furloughed convict and his American and Chinese partners as they hunt a high-level cybercrime network from Chicago to Los Angeles to Hong Kong to Jakarta.
I’m still trying to get over the January release date for a Michael Mann film, but that has been the plan all along. I’m not sure if Universal was considering that date so they could do a late December awards contending release if it ended up being that kind of film, if they’re hoping for the best or if it really is dumping ground material. Considering it’s Mann, the latter seems impossible, we’ll know soon enough.
