Emma Stone is keeping herself busy. Along with doing press for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), she is about to make her Broadway debut in the revival of Cabaret as Sally Bowles, alongside Tony winner Alan Cumming. This revival is a remounting of 1998 production which won four Tonys and ran for over 2,300 performances. Stone will be taking over the role from Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams, who also made her Broadway debut in the show.
I had the great pleasure to see the show back in June. I was two days late on the Shia LaBeouf arrest, unfortunately. Williams received a lot of criticism for her performance because she is not the greatest singer in the world. The thing is, Sally is supposed to be untalented. She is just conning everyone into thinking she is great. I think people get hung up on what Liza Minnelli did in the film version and reject a different interpretation. Williams played her very broken from the word go, and I thought it was an interesting choice that paid off. I am curious to hear what Stone does with the part, as I am a big fan and most likely will not be able to see it.
Entertainment Weekly has released the first picture of Stone as Sally. It should not surprise anyone that she wears lace very well. Along with that, we are given a new clip from Birdman for you to watch. She is attracting a lot of attention for her performance, and the wait to see this movie is becoming pretty unbearable.
You can watch the new clip and see the full picture below.
