Only a day after Robin Williams passes we now receive news that Lauren Bacall has died at the age of 89. The cause of death comes as a result of a “massive stroke” reports TMZ. The news was later confirmed by the Humphrey Bogart Estate on Twitter saying, “With deep sorrow, yet with great gratitude for her amazing life, we confirm the passing of Lauren Bacall.”
Born Betty Joan Perske, Bacall would later change her name at the insistence of To Have and Have Not director Howard Hawks. She was nominated for an Oscar for The Mirror Has Two Faces and starred in The Big Sleep, Key Largo, Harper, The Shootist and recently films such as Lars von Trier‘s Dogville and Manderlay as well as providing her voice to the English language adaptation of recent animated Oscar nominee Ernest & Celestine.
She had been married to Humphrey Bogart with whom she first starred in 1944’s To Have and Have Not as well as Dark Passage and the aforementioned Key Largo. The couple had two children together, and she had one other child, actor Sam Robards, from her previous marriage with Jason Robards.
