If the reader predictions are anything to go by this weekend we may have some serious competition for highest grossing newcomer as only $400,000 separate the aggregate predictions for About Last Night and RoboCop.
While The Lego Movie is likely to take the top spot, the battler for second begins and readers have gone all in with Kevin Hart and About Last Night, predicting a $26 million opening weekend for the well-reviewed film, and it looks like it might be the right bet as…
RoboCop opened on Wednesday to a very soft $2.8 million and people are thinking it’s going to have a tough time reaching $30 million for the five-day weekend, let alone mid-20s for the three day. The readers predicted on average a $25.6 million finish from Friday-Sunday and it’s beginning to look like they may still be too high.
As for Endless Summer, reviews aren’t looking too kind, but it’s Valentine’s Day weekend so it’s likely to make some money. The readership predicted $14.3 million, which creates a large gulf between that and Laremy’s $18.9 million prediction.
Finally, Winter’s Tale seems to be dead on arrival. The trailers were terrible and it’s primarily the film’s fault as it tries to be everything and ends up being a whole lot of nothing. The readers have predicted a $8.9 million finish and I wouldn’t be surprised if even that was high.
I’ve included Laremy’s predictions and the average reader predictions directly below and I’ll be back on Sunday with box office estimates. To see Laremy’s full list of predictions and all 90 reader predictions for this weekend click here.
