deceive the media by issuing a press release saying Silver Linings Playbook‘s Oscar nominated director and star, David O. Russell and Jennifer Lawrence, were preparing to team once again on The Ends of the Earth with a script from Chris Terrio (Argo).
Shortly thereafter it was reported to have no knowledge of the project moving forward at the Weinstein Co. and he never met with Russell. A year later, the film hasn’t been heard from since, but Jennifer Lawrence has her Oscar, and it appears history may be repeating itself.
According to reports, Russell and Lawrence are preparing to reteam on a film based on the life of Joy Mangano, the inventor of the Miracle Mop, for Fox 2000. However, given the fact Mangano was a single mother of three when her life altering invention made her one of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs, I’m having a hard time envisioning 23-year-old Lawrence in the role. Maybe that’s just me, I had a similar “believability” problem with her character in American Hustle.
The script for the film, which is said will be rewritten by Russell, was originally penned by Annie Mumolo, one-half of the Bridesmaids screenwriting duo, described by Deadline.com as “a rags-to-riches story of a woman who worked three jobs to support her kids and who overcame long odds to finally get her due with an invention that became an HSN sensation and allowed Mangano to clean up.”
When will this so-called project be made? Well, Lawrence still has The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and 2 to film as well as planned reunions with The Hunger Games helmer Gary Ross on an East of Eden remake and an adaptation of Hannah Kent’s novel Burial Rites. Not to forget her X-Men commitment, which will likely have her working on X-Men: Apocalypse soon enough.
So will this Mangano story eventually get made? Well, by the time Lawrence finishes with everything I mentioned above, maybe she’ll be more believable in the role… maybe. I guess I’m more interested now in seeing how Lupita Nyong’o‘s camp gets her name out in the media to combat what appears to me to be a blatant attempt to get her American Hustle competitor some headlines, and I hope the folks at Fox Searchlight aren’t counting on Non-Stop to help Nyong’o’s cause.
