Box Office Predictions: ‘I, Frankenstein’ Squares Off Against ‘Ride Along’

I’ve got Ride Along repeating at the top of the pops, mostly because I don’t know a single person excited about I, Frankenstein.. Sure, Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are facing a prodigious drop, say something north of 50 percent, but when you start from the $40 million range you’re bound to be a contender.

Then we move right along to I, Frankenstein, a film I can’t find tracking for, but in line with January it will finish pretty low. The main problem for this ugly duckling is that it lacks the theater counts to overtake Ride Along, only getting 2,700 on its opening weekend. Personally, I can’t go any higher than $16.2 million, but I’ve been way off lately, so perhaps just double or half that number to be safe.

Due to lack of choices (I don’t have Gimme Shelter finishing in the top ten) we’re going to go with the holdover number for Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. This one only received a “B” CinemsScore, which equates to about a D+ back in real life. I’m looking for the second biggest drop of the weekend, all the way down to $8.2 million. There was a reason this one was delayed, and it was because everyone involved was a little ashamed of themselves.

Lastly, The Nut Job, why not? Only a “B” CinemaScore here too, it’s as if the blind hand of the market has finally decided I’ve got a point on a lot of these debacles. Still, it’s an animated film, and I’m hesitant to lowball those, especially given children won’t be seeing any films next Sunday. Will parents get it out of the way and reward The Nut Job with $11.8 million? I say, “Yep”.

More importantly, how say you? I slightly rallied last weekend, here’s hoping I can keep the momentum going against the lot of you.

Current Record: 3-9 against the wisdom of the crowds
