Back in The Hateful Eight, an obvious allusion to Akira Kurosawa‘s Seven Samurai and even more so to John Sturges‘ remake The Magnificent Seven.
According to Deadline, Tarantino has finished the first draft of the screenplay and is interested in once again reuniting with his Django and Inglourious Basterds star and two-time Oscar winner, Christoph Waltz as well as Bruce Dern who’s enjoying his time in the sun on the awards trail for his work in Nebraska, but you’ll also remember his small role in Django Unchained as Old Man Carrucan (pictured above).
The script is reportedly out to agencies (which means it will likely leak online soon) and THR suggests Tarantino would like to shoot the film this summer.
Personally, I hope there’s a little more imagination in the screenplay then I’m seeing in this title and in the casting hopefuls. Another film with Waltz playing virtually the same character once again doesn’t excite me much, even though Django was my #1 film of 2012 and I’ll line-up to watch anything Tarantino does. I just don’t want him to start repeating himself, something I’m sure his detractors will be quick to say he’s been doing his entire career.
