Box Office Actuals: Leaderboard Updated as ‘Hobbit’ Actuals Match Estimates

Good news for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and the weekend estimates actually matched the final numbers, which doesn’t often happen. The film finished with $73.6 million, which may have been $11 million off the first film, but is still enough for the ninth largest opening weekend of 2013.

Meanwhile, Frozen made a little more than estimated, bringing in $22.5 million, still enough for second place as Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas finished with $16 million, just as estimated.

Finally, Out of the Furnace brought in $2.4 million for the weekend.
