This isn’t necessarily news, but I thought this Japanese poster for Nebraska was interesting and, if anything, at least different as the designer took the black-and-white still image and simply faded it up into a blue sky and added a few cartoon clouds and the drawing of a hat that reads “Prize Winner”.
Already in theaters, Nebraska was recently nominated for six Spirit Awards and has been doing decent business in limited release. It’s adding 74 more theaters this weekend for a whopping 102 nationwide as Paramount slowly expands it to a few more cities.
The story follows an aging alcoholic father (Bruce Dern) who thinks he’s won a million dollar Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstakes prize. He is unbowed when his family tries to dissuade him from making the long trip from Montana to Nebraska to cash in his winnings. So his estranged 20-something son (Will Forte) — who doesn’t believe the ticket is a winner — is forced to go along with him for the ride to keep him out of trouble, providing an opportunity to bond with his father after years of separation.
