It’s Oscar season and things have gotten extremely busy, though thankfully a screener of Her arrived before the weekend, freeing up my afternoon today and thus making this week a little lighter. Next week, however, is a different story as it includes screenings of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, American Hustle, Out of the Furnace, Lone Survivor and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty in the span of two-and-a-half days. So this Thanksgiving week is sort of the calm before the storm, though prep for next week must begin now.
That, of course, is all besides the point. The point of this post is the following clip from Mitty, starring Ben Stiller, which seems to have lost some of its awards appeal, though I know there are some prognosticators that believe the “crowd pleasing” aspect of it will win over some Academy members, keeping it in the conversation.
While those of us here in Seattle will be among the last critics to see it even though it won’t be hitting theaters until Christmas Day.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a remake of the 1947 Danny Kaye starrer, which itself was based on the 1939 short story by James Thurber. The story centers on Mitty, a man who escapes his unexciting daily life by delving into elaborate daydreams in which he is suddenly a heroic character.
