Clip from ‘Black Nativity’ with Jacob Latimore and Forest Whitaker

I’m not a theatre goer so I have no idea what to expect from Kasi LemmonsBlack Nativity, but she’s certainly assembled an impressive cast for her adaptation of Langston Hughes’ play, which will feature Jacob Latimore as Langston, a street-wise teen from Baltimore raised by a single mother, as he journeys to New York City to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged relatives Reverend Cornell and Aretha Cobbs (Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett).

Unwilling to live by Reverend Cobbs’ rules, a frustrated Langston is determined to return home to his mother, Naima (Jennifer Hudson), sending him on a journey of self-exploration. Along with new friends, and a little divine intervention, he discovers the true meaning of faith, healing, and family.

This year it seems the studios are finally opening their eyes a little to the underserved demographics as he have not one, not two, but three films starring black actors for the holidays. Obviously the first hits theaters tomorrow in the 14-years-later sequel The Best Man Holiday, Black Nativity arrives November 27 and then on December 13 you have Tyler Perry’s A Madea’s Christmas.

BlackFilm.com offers up this new clip from Black Nativity, in which Langston meets his grandfather for what I assume is the first time. Check it out directly below and I’ve just added several more pictures from the film right here.
