Box Office Actuals: Leaderboard Updated as ‘Bad Grandpa’ Takes #1 with $32 Million

I can’t remember the last time a studio’s estimates became the weekend actuals, but Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa didn’t budge, finishing the weekend with $32 million, the second highest opening in the Jackass franchise not taking inflation into account and I expect it will finish its domestic run somewhere around the $65-70 million mark once all is said and done. Meanwhile, overseas it opened to the tune of $8.1 from 16 territories, most of which came from the UK and Germany.

Down in fourth place is the weekend’s other new wide release, Ridley Scott‘s The Counselor, which slipped $200,000 with actuals, coming in at $7.8 million for the weekend.

Our other two titles for this weekend’s box office challenge were of the limited variety, the first being Saudi Arabia’s first ever Foreign Language Oscar submission, Wadjda, which expanded to 87 theaters and brought in $123,035.

The other limited release is a little more buzzy after it won the Palme d’Or in Cannes and hit four theaters this weekend with an NC-17 rating. Of course I’m talking about Blue is the Warmest Color, which managed $100,316 ($25,079 per).

As I said yesterday morning, November begins next weekend with the wide releases of Ender’s Game, Free Birds and Last Vegas along with the limited release of About Time, Dallas Buyers Club and Diana.
