Your Box Office Predictions for ‘Gravity’, ‘Captain Phillips’, ‘Machete Kills’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’

Well, would you look at that, after I said the readers consistently go under Laremy’s predictions, this week finds them going over on two of the four films and by a rather large margin for one of them as there is far more confidence in the readership for the second week prospects of Gravity as the reader average is $33.1 million, $2.4 million higher than Laremy’s prediction, which itself was only a 45% drop. Either way, anything over $25 million or so will put Gravity at $100 million domestically after only ten days in theaters. Not too shabby.

In second the readership went a little under Laremy’s number for Captain Phillips, predicting a $23.9 million finish, which is much closer to tracking and probably more likely. I think Gravity is still the talk of the town this week and I think the Captain has plenty of time to make its cash, though I’m not really expecting much.

Neither Laremy or the readers were bullish on the chances Machete Kills follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, which opened at $11.4 million. The readers see a $7 million opening, $1.6 million less than Laremy’s prognostication.

And in limited release the readers went $1K higher than Laremy on Romeo and Juliet with an even $1 million.

I’ve included Laremy’s predictions and the average reader predictions directly below and I’ll be back on Sunday with box office estimates. To see Laremy’s full list of predictions and all 90 reader predictions for this weekend click here.
