Wonder Woman Fan Film Shows the Theatrical Possibilities for the Amazonian Warrior

The following is a solid little fan film in which Rainfall Films director Sam Balcomb imagines what a film featuring Wonder Woman would look like, or at least giving the DC Comics character some level of viability in a world where our cinematic superheroes are all men. It’s a solid attempt, but it’s really not much more than a trailer where every single second is in slow motion, not a whole lot happens and there isn’t an ounce of dialogue. It certainly gives the impression that visually this character may be able to exist on the big screen, but visuals have never really been a problem, it’s story where studios get hung up.

Here’s the director’s statement followed by the short and a poster for the project:

“Firstly, thanks for watching. Whether you like, or dislike, our live action interpretation of Diana of Themyscira, Wonder Woman, born of clay, I think (quite a few of) you will agree she is a character just as vital and crucial to our understanding of humanity as any other superhero… if not more so.

We spent the majority of 2013 working on this — the look, the feel, the aspects we most wanted to portray. It’s a scant two and half minutes, but in the end, it’s one hundred and fifty seconds of pure fantasy, where I get to consider the two sides of my favorite warrior: a crusader in man’s world, and a paragon of virtue told through Greek mythology.

It’s a fun world to hang out in. I hope you enjoy it.”
