‘Llewyn Davis’, ‘All is Lost’, ‘Nebraska’ and More Added to Complete 2013 New York Film Festival Selection

The fall film festival circuit has grown by leaps and bounds as we scrutinize the likes of the Toronto, Venice and Telluride Film Festival selections and New York has just upped the ante even further. The fest already set Paul GreengrassCaptain Phillips as its opener, Spike Jonze‘s Her as its closer and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty as its centerpiece selection. With the secret screening still a question mark (will it be Martin Scorese’s The Wolf of Wall Street?) the fest has just announced 51 more titles that will be making an appearance and many are standouts from this year’s Cannes Film Festival that had so far avoided Toronto and Venice.

Among the titles that premiered at Cannes you have Joel and Ethan Coen’s Inside Llewyn Davis (read my “A+” review here), J.C. Chandor‘s All is Lost starring Robert Redford (read my “A+” review here), Alexander Payne‘s Nebraska (read my review here), Blue is the Warmest Color, The Bastards (read my review here), Like Father, Like Son, Jimmy P: Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian (read my review here), Only Lovers Left Alive (read my review here), The Immigrant (read my review here) and A Touch of Sin.

The absence of many of these titles from the Toronto and Venice lineups was a little cause for concern when you try and consider their Oscar chances, but setting up their North American premieres at the New York Festival is a smart move.

A few titles are already set to play Toronto as well such as James Franco‘s Child of God, Ralph Fiennes latest directorial outing The Invisible Woman, Roger Michell‘s La Week-end and Hayao Miyazaki‘s latest animated feature The Wind Rises.

The most recognizable title making a premiere is Richard Curtis‘s time-travel comedy About Time starring Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams, Lindsay Duncan and Bill Nighy.
