The final box office numbers are in and Elysium slid from the estimated $30.5 million to $29.8m, but still remains the #1 film for the weekend over second place We’re the Millers, which finished with $26. 4 million proving audiences love them some R-rated Jennifer Aniston.
Disney’s Planes held on to the #3 slot with #22.2 million, while Fox’s Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters lost $200,000 from its estimated total for a weekend number of $14.4 million.
These were the four films in this weekend’s RopeofSilicon Box Office Challenge, but outside of updating the results I really couldn’t care less about these numbers.
More interesting is the $2.3 million Woody Allen‘s Blue Jasmine brought in from only 119 theaters ($19,709 per) along with the $13.4 million Fruitvale Station has brought in from a maximum of 828 theaters so far. Believe me, while Fruitvale looks to be sliding on my Oscar charts now, I imagine a late November, early December DVD/Blu-ray release and a whole new Oscar push is on the horizon… Same goes for Lee Daniels’ The Butler, which arrives this weekend, will have its impact and will surface for a second win in about three months of heavy campaigning.
