Warner Bros. Officially Announces Superman and Batman Movie for 2015

UPDATE: Warner Bros. has made the announcement official from the San Diego Comic con that the next Superman film will feature the teaming of Batman and Superman and Harry Lennix was on stage with Man of Steel director Zack Snyder and read the following quote from Frank Miller‘s “The Dark Knight Returns” (buy it here), which is said will inform the film:

“I want you to remember, Clark… in all the years to come, in your most private moments, I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you…”

The film itself, however, will not be based on the graphic novel.

Also confirmed is the involvement of Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Harry Lennix and Diane Lane along with Henry Cavill back as Superman. The logo that was shown at Comic Con is featured at the bottom of this post via Eric Vespe.

The Flash and Justice League rumors from earlier today were not confirmed.

Instead of Man of Steel 2, a Batman reboot or a Justice League movie, Warner Bros. is reportedly planning on a film for 2015 that will feature both Superman and Batman in the same film.

“Los Angeles Times” blog Hero Complex reports Man of Steel director Zack Snyder will reunite with Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer for the film with Henry Cavill again playing Superman. Not so surprising, Christian Bale, who starred as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises is not expected to reclaim the cape and cowl for the film and there is no mention of Joseph Gordon-Levitt either, though that obviously give fans something to cheer about should they find a way to establish a franchise in which Christopher Nolan‘s Batman franchise lives in the same world as the new world created in Snyder’s Man of Steel.

Speaking of Nolan, he will executive produce the project, which is to say he is taking a step back even further.

In the comics world, Greg Pak and Jae Lee recently collaborated for the latest teaming of the two superheroes in the DC universe with “Batman/Superman“, which is the art you see accompanying this article. The first issue went on sale on June 26, 2013 and you can [amazon asin=”B00BUAFGDU” text=”buy it here”] from Amazon for your Kindle or Kindle app.

Here’s the press release that was just sent out:

On the heels of the worldwide success of Man of Steel, director Zack Snyder is bringing together the two greatest Super Heroes of all time — Batman and Superman — for the first time on the big screen. The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution,Warner Bros. Pictures.

The current hit, Man of Steel, has taken in more than $630 million at the worldwide box office to date, and climbing. Along with its star, Henry Cavill, the upcoming film brings back Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. The new Batman has yet to be cast.

Snyder is co-writing the story with David S. Goyer, who will then pen the screenplay. Production is expected to begin in 2014, with an anticipated release date in Summer 2015.

Silverman stated, “Zack Snyder is an incredibly talented filmmaker, but beyond that, he’s a fan first and he utterly gets this genre. We could not think of anyone better suited to the task of bringing these iconic Super Heroes to the screen in his own way.” Kroll added, “We are thrilled to be back in business with Zack and his team on this next movie. The success of Man of Steel is a wonderful testament to the love and support that both fans and new audiences, worldwide, have for these characters. We are very excited to see what Zack has in store for all of us.”
