Penelope Cruz to Play Bond Girl in ‘Bond 24’?

Yahoo is reporting, quite confidently I might add, that Penelope Cruz is already set to star in James Bond 24 with the site saying she “will start work on the as yet unnamed 24th Bond movie next summer.”

The site is focusing on the fact Cruz will take over the honor of the “oldest Bond girl ever” from Goldfinger‘s Honor Blackman who was 39 when she played Pussy Galore. Cruz would be following in her husband’s footsteps after Javier Bardem played the villain in 2012’s Skyfall.

A source told Yahoo’s Liz Hoggard, “The producers have tried to get Penelope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments. The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now.”

I’m not going to jump and add her to the cast just yet, but the confidence in the report, which includes a supposed budget of £100 million pounds, makes me think it just might be true.

Activity around the film is certainly picking up as a recent report claimed Skyfall director Sam Mendes is ready to not only direct Bond 24, but likely Bond 25 as well. I’m sure we’re in for an announcement in the near future.
