I used to be an avid reader of Stephen King‘s novels, but there came a point where he was churning them out so quickly I just stopped. It no longer seemed like he was taking his time as much as he became a Stephen King novel factory, churning out stories that weren’t particularly exciting or fascinating. Some of my dwindling interest could be associated with the fact I was merely reading too much Stephen King and not enough of everyone else, but outside of finally finishing King’s “Dark Tower” series about five or six years back, I haven’t read a single King novel since. I can’t tell you the last time I read a King novel that wasn’t from the “Dark Tower” series and at one point I owned them all.
Now CBS is bringing a recent King novel to the small screen for a 13-episode mini-series. The novel is “[amazon asin=”1439149038″ text=”Under the Dome”]” and the first episode will air June 24 so you have more than enough time to read it before it airs if you’re interested. Here’s the book synopsis:
Just down Route 119 in Chester’s Mill, Maine, all hell is about to break loose…
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day, a small town is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and rain down flaming wreckage. A gardener’s hand is severed as the dome descends. Cars explode on impact. Families are separated and panic mounts. No one can fathom what the barrier is, where it came from, and when–or if–it will go away. Now a few intrepid citizens, led by an Iraq vet turned short-order cook, face down a ruthless politician dead set on seizing the reins of power under the dome. But their main adversary is the dome itself. Because time isn’t just running short. It’s running out.
The cast of “Under the Dome” includes Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Dean Norris, Natalie Martinez, Britt Robertson, Alexander Koch, Colin Ford, Nicholas Strong, Jolene Purdy and Aisha Hinds and Niels Arden Oplev (Dead Man Down, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) is directing the first episode.
Today a first look trailer came online offering the first actual footage from the show after I saw so many teasers during the NCAA Tournament this weekend. Check it out below, this looks like it might actually be worth checking out… Also, Stephen King sounds almost exactly like William Friedkin don’tcha think?
