Watson Passes On Two, Law Replaces Fassbender and Nightcrawler Not in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’

.) Emma Watson was in negotiations to take the title role in Kenneth Branagh‘s live-action retelling of the Cinderella story alongside Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother, but Watson has now passed. Watson was also going to star in Your Voice In My Head for her Harry Potter director David Yates, but she passed on that as well and has been replaced by Emily Blunt. Watson will next be seen in Sofia Coppola‘s The Bling Ring on June 14. [Variety / Digital Spy]

.) Jude Law is stepping in for Michael Fassbender in Lynne Ramsay‘s new film, the western Jane Got a Gun. Law will co-star opposite Natalie Portman who plays a woman whose outlaw husband returns home riddled with bullet wounds and barely alive. When her husband’s gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job, she is forced to reach out to an ex-lover (Joel Edgerton) and ask if he will help defend her farm. Shooting begins in the next couple weeks in New Mexico. [THR]

.) David Strathairn is the latest name to have reportedly joined the cast of Gareth EdwardsGodzilla remake at Warner Bros. Other reported cast members include Aaron Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen and Juliette Binoche, though there have been no official reports as of yet. [Variety]

.) Antoine Fuqua has Olympus Has Fallen coming out shortly and as for his attachment to a film based on the popular Kiefer Sutherland television show “24” he says, “Yeah, that’s not happening. I don’t think it’s gonna happen at all, definitely not with me. I met with Kiefer, Fox wanted to do it, it was a matter of his schedule before he went off to do his new show… I don’t think he was able to get a proper agreement with Fox. The time just passed, and I went off to go to what I was doing.” [The Playlist]

.) UPDATE: Apparently this rumor is false. James McAvoy apparently revealed to Heat Radio that Alan Cumming will be returning as Nightcrawler in Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Several cast members from previous films in the X-verse are returning, but just how involved they’ll be in the new film is unknown, though it would seem these all may be just cameo roles more than anything else.
