I would like to begin by thanking everyone that has contributed so far. First week contributions totaled $1,039 and your contributions mean more than you can imagine. After running this site for a little over ten years the support you have shown in the last seven days has been amazing.
Before posting the Cannes contribution form last Monday, I hadn’t even applied to cover the festival, but after seeing the first wave of contributions coming in I applied immediately and was approved within three days of application. I don’t know if it’s a sign, but I have never been approved that quickly and I’ve already started pricing out the trip and will be purchasing my plane ticket this Wednesday, which is why I’m posting this update.
After crunching the numbers I have set a goal of $2,500 for the contribution/donation drive. All funds raised will go directly toward my 2013 Cannes Film Festival coverage, which will allow me to cover the festival from opening day, May 14, through the morning of May 23. Over the weekend I slapped together the following meter that will track the contribution progress. It doesn’t necessarily update live, but as contributions come in I will just need to change the amount of money earned and the meter will begin to move.
Just below the meter I have included the same contribution button as before, which will direct you to a secure PayPal contribution form where you can contribute any amount you best see fit. So far I’ve received contributions from $5-200 and everything in-between and they all count toward the bottom line. Any amount you can provide would be helpful as the $2,500 I’m hoping to earn will cover 50% of the cost of the trip, which includes airfare, lodging and food.
Other than that, it will be a bunch of movie watching, typing and sharing pictures from year.
We should be hearing what film will open the festival any day now and coverage of the fest will only continue to ramp up the further we get along. So stay tuned and, once again, thanks so much for your support.
